From the outset, it's obvious that the ASUS FX 5950Ultra is a serious graphics card. It has a whopping 256Mb of on-board memory and features the best nVidia GeForce FX graphics chip currently available. It also sports the nVidia CineFX 2.0 engine that, without going into too much detail, makes graphics look more cinematic and generally better.
This specification yields the performance you'd expect and as long the rest of your PC is up to scratch, it will handle anything you throw at it.
The ASUS FX 5950Ultra also has all the connections you will need in a graphics card. VGA and DVI are available on the rear of the card while composite in/out and S-Video in/out are contained in a break-out box that can be attached to the card.
Bundled software includes a personal video recorder application that allows you to record TV programmes and VHS video to your hard disk. There is also an additional home security program that, when combined with a webcam, can send out phone or email alerts when movement is detected.
Users of silent PCs might find the two fans a bit noisy and those on a budget might be better off opting for a less powerful (and so quieter) card. For those that can justify the cost or want to play games in the best way possible, this is a good choice.
