If you've been keeping an eye on the busy graphics card market, you may have heard about the significant progress being made by ATI with its XT series. Not to be outdone, rival nVidia has produced its own series of graphics cards, also with an XT suffix.

The XFX Geforce 5900 XT features a cut-down version of nVidia's flagship 5900 Ultra graphics processor. It has 128Mb of memory, half that of its big brother, but it has a very similar ability to power games at high speed.

We tested the XFX against rival cards and it consistently achieved a good score in a number of areas. Increasing the resolution and turning up the amount of graphical detail in games is a great indication of a card's power, and we were pleasantly surprised when the XFX managed to maintain a steady, clear picture at very demanding settings.

The XFX features a DVI port, so if you've got a flat-screen monitor with a concurring connection, you'll be rewarded with a very crisp image. You can start playing straight away thanks to the five-in-one games bundle, which includes the excellent Comanche 4.
