Mobile operator Three is set to introduce a new mobile broadband service for both businesses and consumers, priced from just £10 per month.

Available from 4 September, the upgraded Mobile Broadband service will offer download speeds up to 2.8Mbps over what Three refers to as its Turbo network. This is being deployed in a phased rollout that will initially cover 50 percent of the UK, extending to about 85 percent coverage by December.

Subscribers can choose from three tariffs offering data allowances of 1GB, 3GB or 7GB for £10, £15 or £25 per month, respectively, with any traffic beyond the allowance charged at ten pence per megabyte.

There is also an up-front charge for the USB modem that starts at £99 for a 12 month contact, but is free for 24 month contracts, depending on the tariff chosen.

Three claimed the total cost of its mid-range tariff adds up to £259, as opposed to £348 and over £400 for comparable services offered by T-Mobile and Vodafone.

UK marketing director John Penberthy-Smith said the new Mobile Broadband package has been priced to make it outstanding value for money and accessible to everyone.
Rollout of the new service will initially cover Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, plus central London. By October, cover will extend to the area inside the M25, then larger cities in Southern England by November.
