Although originally intended as an OEM-only part, Matrox has decided to make the dual DVI version of its Millennium G550 graphics card available to retail buyers.
With a DVI port that supports dual monitor connections, you can drive two displays with either digital or analogue signals, although the cable adapters supplied assume that both are of exactly the same type - so you can't mix a digital LCD with an analogue CRT, for instance.
Matrox's DualHead drivers allow you to extend your desktop across both monitors or alternatively use the second display to zoom in on a specific area of the first - regardless of differences in resolution or colour depth.
Aside from this, the feature set remains the same. HeadCasting is of limited appeal and 3D performance is still mediocre, but DualHead is an effective tool for business users and this version of the Millennium G550 brings it to owners of digitally-driven displays.
