Creative Extigy

Designed with portable users in mind, Creative Labs' Sound Blaster Extigy offers the high-end sound quality found in the company's PCI products in a small package for those wanting sound capabilities on the move.

With its slick black finish and silver dials, the Sound Blaster tries hard to fit in with your notebook PC, games console or DVD-Video player.

It's also littered with audio jack sockets for every occasion, including optical in/out, line-in, microphone, headphones, MIDI-in/out, S/PDIF in and connections for rear/front speakers and a subwoofer. There's also a USB 1.1 port for easy connectivity to a desktop or notebook.

The Extigy produces excellent sound via its 24-bit/96MHz/100db SNR processor. It has an onboard Dolby Digital decoder and offers CMSS, Creative's Multi-Speaker Surround system, which lets you mix stereo content for a 5.1 sound experience.

However, the product seems lost as to who it's aimed at. DVD-Video buffs will already have a Dolby Digital decoder, while notebook PC users might find the Sound Blaster Extigy too big to carry around.
