As hard drives get ever bigger, the problem of backing up data from them becomes even more of a headache. One solution to this problem is to buy an external hard drive and the latest from Western Digital combines huge amounts of storage with two of the fastest interfaces that are currently available - USB 2.0 and FireWire, which both offer hot-swap ability.
The stylish silver-and-black plastic case holds a standard WD Caviar 2000BB drive. The 2000BB has a spin speed of 7,200rpm, a 2MB buffer and three 66GB platters.
The drive's back panel houses two FireWire ports that are suitable for daisy-chaining devices, a single USB 2.0 port and the socket for the external DC power supply.
The two interfaces are fast enough not to cramp the drive's performance, but for higher transfer rates still, there's a Special Edition 250GB version of the drive that uses Western Digital's latest 250GB, 8MB cache drive (price TBA).
The drive comes supplied with FireWire and USB 2.0 certified cables, a power adapter, easy setup guide and a year's standard Western Digital warranty.
