Pros:

Fair value and a decent-quality image

Cons: No DVI input; no height adjustment

Overall: A basic TFT display with a minimal feature list. It's fair value and certainly worth considering

LG has brought out a new 15in thin film transistor (TFT) display with a keen price to tempt Luddite cathode-ray tube (CRT) users over to the way of the TFT. That may be a little exaggerated, but we trust that you get our point.

The LG L1510S has a native resolution of 1,024 x 768 and a fairly basic design. It has a video graphics array (VGA) input on the lower edge of the display, and next to it is the power connector. You plug in the mains cable directly with no external power brick. Connection is very easy and, if you guide the cables through the hole in the stand, it looks neat too.

The stand is fairly basic and has no height adjustment, with just fore and aft tilt. Despite the minimal adjustment, the panel is easy to position comfortably and the wide viewing angle certainly helps. The bezel is silver in colour and is reasonably narrow, with the six control buttons along the bottom edge.

The styling is pleasant and unobtrusive, although the green power light is very bright and quite distracting.

This image is perfectly adequate for regular office use and basic gaming.

The contrast and brightness scales were fairly narrrow so it was fortunate we did not need to make too many adjustments to obtain a decent image.

One of the most significant advances in recent TFT displays is improved brightness, but that seems to have passed LG by, as when at maximum it could be a little too dark for some, particularly during DVD playback.

The LG1510S is rather sparse in terms of features. It occupies a niche above really basic displays, but saves you some cash over more feature-rich offerings.
