You may wonder why the latest 17in LCD from CTX has a similar name to the company's PV722I.
Well, this is the same dual-port (D-Sub and DVI) display with a detachable speaker bar, and a powered USB2 hub that neatly fits into the stand.
Don't expect amazing sound quality, but the USB hub with one upstream and four downstream ports is a welcome addition.
We were impressed by the PV722i's display performance and the PV722E coped just as well in our tests.
CTX quotes a viewing angle of 170 degrees both horizontally and vertically, and it's not far off the mark. This is a virtue of the PV722E's Multi-domain Vertical Alignment LCD, where the liquid crystals have been angled in more than one direction.
Colour fading is consistent, and the PV722E differentiated and displayed every one of the 64 grey intensity levels in our greyscale test.
With a native resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 you get plenty of desktop space and, if you work with images, the strong contrast and smooth colour transitions make it suitable for photo editing.
Using the Pivot Pro software you can physically rotate the display for a portrait view. The screen can also be detached from its stand and wall or arm mounted.
The OSD options are easy to navigate and include a movie function, colour temperature modes and settings for tint and flesh tones, although the latter two are not available when the DVI port is used.
In addition, we couldn't rotate the OSD when working in portrait mode - a small gripe, but annoying.
When all is taken into account, CTX has simply added some extra features to an already impressive display, and asked only a tiny premium for the privilege.
