At first glance, LG's highly attractive 19in 1920P appears to set something of a benchmark for monitor desirability. Thanks to an attractive black and silver case, complete with chrome-plated base, this is an eye-catching proposition.
The overall aesthetic is helped by a light around the unit's power button which glows amber during standby or blue when a VGA signal is detected. Further credit is given to the 1920P for its streamlined bezel and an internal power supply that avoids the use of a external transformer.
The 1920P performed well in our tests at its relatively low native resolution of 1,200 x 1,024. For everyday use it gives good results and, to the untrained eye, there are few faults to find. Comparison with other flat-panel screens revealed the 1920P is particularly adept at displaying vivid colours and a high degree of contrast.
Closer inspection however, revealed a few blemishes in its performance. During DVD playback, movies looked good for the most part, although the high saturation levels produced unrealistic-looking skin textures compared to our reference CRT display. On the whole though, its screen does a commendable job.
Beyond this, the 1920P is supplied with both VGA and DVI-I inputs, along with their respective cables. There are, however, no inputs allowing you to directly connect video playback equipment, such as a standalone DVD player. In addition, the monitor does not provide built-in speakers, an omission which some users may view as significant.
On the whole, LG has produced a monitor with good performance and adequate features at a decent price.
