The DSR DVDual Series is a multi-drive DVD+/-R/CD-R duplicator that allows you to copy multiple CD or DVDs at the touch of a button. The unit itself is a fairly uninspiring PC case with the entire front filled with DVD recorders and very little else. You can buy a tower with up to 16 recorders installed but the version we used contained eight.
To control the DSR DVDual you are provided with very basic digital display unit that would look more at home in a supermarket checkout. Your input choices are limited to two buttons mounted on the display unit, labelled Yes and No. Needless to say we were very sceptical that these limited controls would be enough to take full advantage of the unit, but we were surprised. The menu hierarchy has been very well designed.
It doesn't claim to be lightning fast but we managed eight copies of an audio CD audio disc in around two minutes and eight copies of a DVD containing mixed data in just over 15 minutes, which is quick by anyone's standards.
The hard disk allows you to store up to 10 images (default is seven DVD images and three CD images) or perform CD track extraction for CD audio compilations.
The unit is also available with Firewire connection that enables you to control it from a PC. But we were hard pushed to find a reason you would need to, given that the supplied control box works so effectively. All in all this is a very powerful product - if you work in a small business looking for a duplication product then this is definitely worth a look. The only downside is a price that would make a hefty dent in a small business budget.
