Sibelius Software, which develops programs for musicians to create musical
scores, announced that it has been bought by US based Avid Technology in a deal
valued at £12.3m ($23m).
Sibelius' applications are also widely used to write, teach and learn music.
Consequently, Avid will gain access to the large educational market that
Sibelius has been tapping for years.
Avid Technology, which specialises in media creation and distribution
solutions, has won Oscar, Grammy and Emmy awards for its software and services.
Founded in 1993 and operating from London,
Sibelius had grown to be one of the
leading providers of music notation software in the world.
