Californian memory specialist Super Talent Launches has announced low-cost
solid-state disks for the Eee PC range of mini notebooks.
The SSDs were designed specifically for the Asus range and use the mini-PCI
slot.
US estimated street prices for the cheaper but slower multi-level cell
version are $53 (£31), $79 (£45) and $149 (£85) for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB
versions respectively.
The maximum read/write speeds for all are quoted as 40/15 MB/sec.
SLC (single-level cell) SSDs in 8GB, 16GB and32GB capacities will also be
available but prices have yet to be announced.
Super Talent says the cards "have been tested extensively with Asus Eee PCs
to ensure performance and compatibility". They are suitable for Eee PC models
701, 702, 900, 901, 903, 905 and 1000, according to the specifications.
Mass production will begin in November but there is no firm release date.
