Windows Explorer has some limitations, the most notable of which is its single-pane view. 2xExplorer provides you with a dual-pane view and many other useful features that are missing from windows Explorer.
Although not as powerful as PowerDesk, it's ideal for intermediate users.
The interface loosely emulates Explorer in its layout. Having two panes means that two separate folders can be browsed simultaneously. This is great for dragging files from one destination to another or comparing folder contents.
Various buttons located around the viewing panes allow instant access to common areas, or execute common commands at the click of a button. They are all icons though, so you will need to learn what they are first.
File contents are listed alphabetically by both their name and extension, making it a hell of a lot easier to locate files. Powerful search tools and file filters add to its usability.
Other key features include:
- Keyboard shortcuts for nearly all commands
- Drivebar navigation for quick access to all drives
- Printing of folder contents, find results and other statistics
- Complete file date info (creation and last accessed info as well as normal modification date)
