The Greek government has backed down over its ban on web-based computer games, and has ordered police to stop raids on internet cafes.
Armed with rushed legislation as part of a crackdown on illegal gambling, police have arrested more than 50 internet cafe owners this month.
Three people have already appeared in court following arrests made under the new law, which has been condemned outside Greece.
But the government has now clarified the law, making it clear that only games related to gambling are covered by the legislation.
The new guidelines are being distributed to all police stations in Greece in an effort to reassure internet cafe owners, as well as tourists who fear being charged with playing games in a public place.
Cyber-cafes in the country have faced ruin because online games are an important source of revenue.
Legal experts said that, even with the clarifications, the law may still breach European Union regulations and may need further revisions.
