Microsoft floats Deepfish mobile browser

Software allows mobiles to view full web pages

Microsoft has released a first beta of a new web browser for mobile devices called Deepfish which has the ability to display web pages in their entirety.

Current mobile browsers, such as the mobile version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer, often fail properly to display websites because of limited screen sizes. Mobile browsers instead have to resort to specially designed mobile web pages.

Deepfish will use a zooming feature that allows users to view a portion of the page at full size.

The feature will also help speed up mobile browsing because the browser will only download segments of the website that are zoomed. This results in smaller load pieces and cuts down on the overall load time.

Web page zooming is fast becoming a prominent feature in next-generation mobile devices.

Apple's iPhone uses a similar system for its Safari mobile browser, and a Microsoft-backed firm called ZenZui plans to develop mobile software based on Microsoft's zooming technology.

Microsoft has made the beta available to a limited number of testers and has already reached its cap.

Deepfish does not yet support Ajax, JavaScript, ActiveX, Cookies, and Post HTTP.
